Wagon & Hatchback Trunk Latch
Howdy,
Quick question. Anyone know if the trunk latch assembly on that hatchback can be used on a wago? The “strike plate” on my RT is shot and my trunk is now a no go.
Looked a few diagrams and they look the same but wanted to see if anyone knew before I $$$$.
Thanks

Unfortunately, the latch assembly part number isn’t listed for any of the EFs on this website.
Other websites are showing a part number with SH5 for the 5 door and SH3 for the hatch, though they look identical.

ok, the part numbers are NOT the same, but its possible its just different because it comes with the connecting rod, which is different for sure.
wagon is SH5

3dr hatch is SH3

i guess the best way to find out is just to try...

In case someone stumbles upon this someday looking for the answer - they are not the same. The mounting positions are the same, but the bent portion of the bracket (toward the inside of the car, where the center fastener threads) is at a different angle. The wagons is bent closer to vertical.
There is enough clearance around the latch that you could likely bend the hatch bracket to fit in the wago.
This was determined by comparing a loose hatchback latch assembly to the assembled back end of a wagon.
On a related note, the striker is significantly different, these would not swap without fab work.

Interesting, I just removed the latch assembly off one of my parts wagons for the OP, and it's stamped SH3. I would have thought it would have SH5 stamped if it were wagon specific.
