Icon5 A/C 'Auto' question

This is the first summer I have been driving my late wife's 2010 Accord EX and I don't know if the AC controls are working correctly as they are working differently from most any other car I have owned or rented. It has been a hot & humid summer and I am not happy with the way the A/C works when I get in a hot car. I took it to the dealer, they topped off the coolant but gave me no other information.

It has the push-button controls with an 'AUTO' setting. In other cars, when it is hot and the control is set to AUTO, the A/C comes on with HIGH fan and adjusts the temp accordingly and usually sets it for RECIRCULATING. With this car, the fan comes on at normal fan speed for maintaining temperature and just takes its sweet time cooling off the car. It can be 95 outside so who knows what inside, and the only way I can cool it faster is to force the issue by turning down the temp and kicking up the fan.
Is this normal? I would expect 'Mr. AUTO' to check the temperature, say, DAMN, IT IS HOT! Turn down the temp, kick up the fan and put it on recirculate - Am I wrong in this expectation?
In case anyone is going to ask - Yes, I open the windows to help blow out the hot air.

admittedly if you wanna cool down the car just drop it to the lowest setpoint and set the fan on max and also press the recirculate button. On my old grand marquis the auto button did what you described but sometimes it would not run the fan fast enough for my liking, so i would manually control it until the temp was close to where i wanted, then switch back to auto.
