Unhappy CRX. need help
Bought a 89 crx for 300 bucks. when i got it to start it shook real bad and blew out white smoke. it hadnt been started before that in like 6 years. blown head gasket? Need help im a rookie lol. Thanks guys
let it run for a bit, trying to diagnose an engine after sitting for years isnt a good time to assess it...
but sure, it could have a blown head gasket, why was it sitting?
or its just condensation inside. let it run.
i cant imagine the gas still being good either.

From the story i got it was a guys sons car he told me there was a hole in the oil pan. i looked there wasnt a hole. did put new gas in it however didnt drain old gas either. guage said it was empty. did a fuel pump..... wasnt empty lol.....Anyway got it to start she wasnt happy however i didnt let it run either maybe ill do that and see what she does. i appreciate the reply bro. would like to see this gem on the road again.
Nevermind guys. i should have mentioned it was awhile since i started it and doing it now its more than a head gasket or anything like that
. motor is not ok .it runs soooo rough! i dont remember it being that bad a month ago.... oil hits the ground as soon as i turned it over engine is knocking on heavens door lol. what do you guys think tear into it and rebuild it? or shop around and do my first swap? idk... fml. thanks again though do appreciate the replies and advice.

Well, a rebuild starts with removing the engine, so you might as well do that. Then, one step at a time. The easiest and usually cheapest choice is to find a used motor the same as the one you are replacing and install that. But as you have the old motor out, no harm in opening it up and seeing what is going on. Sounds like maybe you will find a hole in teh block created by a stray rod, but you never know until you look! Remember, one step at a time, do the simple things first then see what is next. My first motor rebuild my hoist was a superheavyweight power lifter named Big Earl.
