How-to advice: EGR valve removal in 2005 Honda Civic LX
Hello folks,
This community has helped me a bunch and time for me to give back. I had to fix an engine oil leak by replacing the valve on the side of the engine. But that required the removal of the EGR valve. And those of you who have tried (or will try) removing the nuts holding the EGR valve, you know it is a bi*** of a job. First, the socket doesn't fit completely straight on either nuts. And second, they are tight as hell.
I made several attempts including extension sockets to get a better angle, using WD40 etc etc. only to end up with those nuts getting rounded. I thought I was f**ed.
But then I discovered two magic tips. First: Kroil the magic oil. This is an amazing product and worked after I soaked the nuts for 1-2 days. Second tip: Using one of those rounded nut removal sockets. Worked like a charm. If someone wants to know what brand sockets did I buy, will be happy to share.
Again, hope this helps someone in need!
Cheers

Did you by chance use wobble socket extensions? I think I used a 1/4" ratchet with a wobble socket extension and was able to get the socket to seat fully. It lets it wiggle just enough when you can't get it perfectly straight. Otherwise, good advice. Penetrating oil and a 6 point socket will help avoid rounding off those nuts but sometimes it just can't be helped.
