Clutch pedal died on me 1992 civic
My clutch pedal died on me late tonight driving home. Was waiting in a turning lane to cross a highway and when I went to put it into gear, the pedal went straight to the floor. It had a little bit of clutch action right at the bottom which was enough to get to the other side of the highway where I promptly pulled over. I haven’t ever had any issues with it before this, besides it using up a little fluid so I got to top it off every once and a while. Pull over and check the fluid, reservoir is empty which is weird cause I topped it off yesterday. Usually it takes a month or two before I have to put a little in. I had DOT 3 brake fluid in the trunk, so I put it in, pump the pedal, nothing. So I attempt to bleed it solo and I still get nothing so I just says **** it cause I was tired and drove home without a clutch. I know it’s probably slave or master cylinder gone bad, but I just want some opinions before I dive into it tomorrow. Any strong opinions about type of fluid or if I should use Honda genuine (I have not been) or maybe if I should replace both slave and master cylinder as a pair?

The OEM slave and master cylinder were made by Nissin. You can search for them under the Nissin or Adler brand names on eBay for cheap. Around $90 to get both together. Also AutohausAZ is another seller that has good deals on Adler. You'll need the OEM part numbers off a Honda parts site to be sure you get the right ones.
BTW: yes the clutch goes out pretty much instantly once the fluid level is low enough to suck air into the master. Same goes for the brakes, but at least that one has a warning light.

you can get both the master and slave clutch cylinders on Amazon. Had to replace mine in the Del Sol a few months back. Looked around and Amazon had the best price for them..
Got mine from Advanced, their Carquest brand. Was about 40 bucks with a lifetime warranty. Working good so far
Adler is made Japan. There is a thread somewhere on this site it is the OEM manufacturer . I bought one years ago for a 92 . It was identical in every visible aspect. I believe advanced carried that brand.
This is just my way of looking at it: if the slave cylinder is old as well then replace both the clutch master and slave cylinders at the same time since the system will be taken apart anyway. Also, I replace the hose every 5 years or when it shows signs of damage or notable degradation.
