About to buy a 2020 Honda Accord LX. A seven year extended warranty is available for an added $2000. Is it worth it?

Thanks, I'm taking the plunge. The issue was always the many sensors the new models have, each of which costs up to a couple of grand to replace. I also decided to vulcanise the undercarriage, don't feel confident in the electronic rust inhibition module.

I paid $ 1200.00 for my 2018 Accord Touring warranty through Autonation Honda in Texas.. Three weeks later a truck tread took out my radar/cruise control.
Manufacturers warranty would not have covered it.
the Automation extended warranty covers road hazards this time to the tune of $1800.00.
First ever extended warranty I have ever bought and it has already paid for itself.

This is what I figured, Pat, if almost anything goes wrong during the extended warranty period, it will pay for the cost. And if nothing goes wrong, I like the peace of mind.

My insurance company extends the warranty through them for $80 a pay period. So that's 160 a year, and for 7 years that's 1,120. Check out if yours does too, I used Geico.

That's a good tip, I didn't think of it and went ahead with the Honda dealership arrangement. For me it was a flat rate of $2000 for the seven year warranty but that's Canadian dollars, about US$1400. And beyond the currency conversion, everything car related (as well as other things) does cost a chunk more in the smaller Canadian market.

I purchased the warranty and it helps me sleep better at night.

I've gone ahead with it for that reason, it's worth it to sleep better.

IMHO, no, not at that price.

These things are negotiable.

There's a solid argument for not needing one at all, and Consumer Reports will tell you outright never to buy an extended warranty.

But you should not have to pay but ½ that for a 100,000 miles warranty.

Thanks for weighing in, George. Sometimes the cost-benefit analysis just comes down to what makes you more comfortable, even if it isn't strictly rational.

Not worth it in my opinion, especially with a reliable car. Usually, whatever problems there are will show up before 3 years/36,000 miles. Besides, often times, the warranty will be honored even after the warranty has expired if something goes wrong that the manufacturer thinks shouldn't have. At least that's been my experience with Japanese cars.
Back in 1991, I had an Accord with 50,000 miles on it & a manual trans. When the clutch started slipping, I made a little noise about the $750.00 repair & Honda of N. America replaced it under warranty.
I had a Toyota Camry with 46,000 miles on it. During a service, the dealer said my drive belt was "Glazed" & should be replaced. After I complained, Toyota replaced it under warranty.
