Default Timing belt

The day of reckoning has arrived. I do not wanna pay for this because it is expensive, but I need to get this done. I really don't know what benefits I'm gonna to get by doing this. It's the only thing I hate on my Honda is that damn timing belt. I wish I didn't have one. I don't know why this is so damn expensive.

I never have done a SOHC but I heard its much easier than the DOHC. There is plenty of vids on you tube to show how to do it properly.

Benefit - An old timing belt can slip or snap. If it does, your engine may be destroyed. Replacing your timing belt every ~100K mile may prevent a catastrophe.

Because most people don't know how to do it or don't want to do it.

How much are you being charged for the work?

This is a technical forum. Do you have any tech questions?

I forgot to ask my tech question. I'm getting my timing belt and water pump done tomorrow because I have 190 thousand miles on my car and I forgot to ask when I bought the car if or when the timing belt was done, so I'm getting it done to be safe I guess. My question is how do you know if its time to replace the timing belt. My car runs and shifts fine on regular streets and the expressway. Its quiet no weird noises. It does lack power going up hill and if the hill is really steep its a struggle. Since I've had it I've done pretty much all the major maintenance stuff except the timing belt. I looked at it and it just looks like a belt with bigger grip points. A regular drive belt starts to get these little gashes if it's time to replace them. I don't know if it's the same for the timing belt. I've heard horror stories of people not changing the timing belt when it needed to be changed.

As far as the amount. 1100 dollars. Seems like a lot to me, but all the hoses the timing pulley cam shaft seals head gasket seal and some other stuff is included. When I saw the list of what's getting replaced I guess its a fair price, but I don't know. I checked around and its all roughly the same except a few places. Those few places have a lot of bad reviews and they don't replace a whole lot of stuff. They don't replace everything that the timing belt kit has if it doesnt need replaced.

Ok I take this back. I have a high pitched sound coming from the timing belt cover spot. I dont care now I'm getting it changed. I heard this story before. A person I know had the same issue didn't get it replaced and his belt snapped and destroyed his engine. He said something bent in the engine. I am not going through that Nope. I have 190 thousand miles on it but its a very good car and I don't plan on getting rid of it right now. Other than that high pitched sound the car runs great.

Thread closed, no real technical merit to this thread. Appears more to be a venting thread on having to pay someone to replace the timing belt.

This section of the forum is for technical aspects of doing the work, typically yourself. Or the technical aspects for knowledge when speaking to a mechanic.
