I searched for a few days about switching my valve cover from the original D16A head that just says Honda to the 92-95 valve cover that has the h logo and vtec on it. So before anyone goes and says I should have looked I did and I read that the swap was possible and that the gasket would work as well I went and bought the a new gasket for the valve cover (I asked for a 95 civic ex 1.6 l but it wasn’t available) so I got a 96 gasket it for good and bolted right on but now it’s leaking it’s coming down by the passenger side. I could tell it’s leaking because I clean the up the area and when I drive around and build up pressure when I check again it’s oily. I put a the 98 gasket in it and same thing would Honda bind help me out or does that valve cover simply not fit?
Something about that valve cover looks wrong. See the lower left part of the gasket I attached? There should be small flat part/ corner piece covering the edges.
Did you happen to torque the bolts down in the right sequence and to specs as well?

What year is that valve cover gasket for? The one I bought first have that but the original valve cover didn’t have it either though
An oil leak from the shown location typically comes the distributor and/or VTEC solenoid. Clean old oil from the engine exterior so that you can confidently pinpoint the leak source.

It's for a 96-00 D series valve cover.
I've ran both 5th GEN and 6th GEN heads on mini-me vtec setups on my cars with both types of valve cover gaskets and was lucky to not have had any leaks. For some odd reason it looks like a small gap at the valve cover to valve cover gasket area, but it could just be the angle of the picture.
I would pull the VC and check the inside channel that the gasket fits in and make sure no gunk's inside. That's a small bit of piece of mind. If that's good to go, clean up all oil and check the area by the distributor that muellersfan mentioned as well. Bolt everything down in sequence and to torque specs and let the car run and see if it leaks.
