Had an 89 CRX Si for 6 months now and want to fit a factory deck in. Found the CD player at a junk yard so i'm looking for a stock deck that has the optional plug on the rear. Does anyone know the best factory deck? Honda 3000?
Getting tired of staring at the radio delete plate.
Honestly, 30+ years later, all those old factory units suck now. I have a Honda 3000 in my 89 Hatchback, and a $20 walmart Bluetooth unit blows it away in sound quality.
That said, I get why you'd want an OEM unit, for that factory appearance look, that's why the 3000 with EQ is still in my car over the walmart unit. The 2000 and 3000 had the CD/EQ input in the back, so either of those should work.
Have you tested your auxiliary CD player? I've sourced 3 of those things, and they all power up but don't read CD's. Hopefully yours still works.
And is there a reason some people prefer the honda 2000 over the 3000?
I think most who are into these old radios prefer the 2000 because it doesnt have the Anti-Theft code like the 3000 requires (which 9 times out of 10 even if you do find a 3000 it doesnt have the code and Honda no longer retains the codes in their serial number database).
However, if you do find a codeless 3000, I've learned a way into it. It just requires you to open it up, access the main board, and resolder a few of the jumper connectors (PM me for more details if you find a codeless 3000).
smithenhiven: what a sweet collection you had. I will most likely be messaging you soon if i find a 3000, so awesome you have a workaround to revive these stylish decks.
I received another radio today, didnt really need it but I've never seen this particular unit before, and its New In Box so I figured why not. It appears visually to be a 1000 series head unit, without the cassette function. Unfortunately, no CD/EQ rear provision. Comparison of n.o.s. unit on top, 1000 middle, 3000 bottom.
This 2000 series just popped up on ebay. Seller is nuts if he thinks he's gonna get anywhere near $350 for a used one with missing ****. He does have the "make offer" button on the auction, so who knows maybe you can get it for much less (and if so, I might have a donor **** off some random worthless head unit that would work).

That 1000 is pretty cool! I've got a 2400 in my EG and it still sounds OK, but not fantastic.
I ended up trying this OEM Honda slim pocket radio mostly because I had never seen one before and really liked it's low profile looks, unfortunately upon installing it I learned it's AM only (I was going to run a bluetooth FM transmitter with it).
Such a cool radio option. What civic is it in? Also I tried my best to win the honda 3000 but was outbid last two seconds... hopefully one day someone will sell their 3000. Congrats on the sale though. Due to last minute bidding war it went for $$$. Was very clean too.
I had the thin radio in my 89 Civic hatchback. After further researching the part number, I think it was originally installed in the JDM Honda "Acty" mini trucks and vans.
Thanks for trying on the 3000, maybe you'll win the next one (I plan on listing one more as soon as I get it working 100%, it currently has no volume, so hoping its a quick internal fix like bad capacitors or power supply of something).
Hi everyone,
My 91 EF sedan came with the Honda 1000 unit (with just the radio) like the one smithenhiven posted earlier in this thread. I am looking to upgrade to a unit with a cassette. If I swap it will it just plug and play? I'm new to this stuff and noticed that there is not a DIN plug on the back of my 1000 radio like there is on the stereos with cassette, not sure what the DIN does..

I believe any oem radio up to about 99 will plug and play with your stock radio harness plug. The lack of DIN plug with your radio is due to that unit not being compatible with the add-on CD player or Equalizer (to run the CD player or EQ you'd need to source a 2000 series or 3000 series radio).
