I have the code P3497 , I had changed the pressure switch , the spool valve ( aftermarket) and the relief spring. The code still showed , I ran seafoam for 200 miles and then changed the oil. I then used liquid moly to make a 2nd attempt to clean the passages. The code still showed. It was suggested to me that possibly the aftermarket spool valve was the problem. I purchased an original ( 15810-r70-a04) . The previous unit I purchased only had the the top half , this unit has the top and bottom half. I believe the bottom half is stuck to the engine with Hondabond. Besides using a jackhammer , how can I separate the unit from the engine? Alternatively is it an option to just remove the top half from the new unit and bolt it onto the old bottom half.

 

Yes, that is recommended. See this Honda bulletin on replacement. It also warns to not remove the original front lower rocker arm oil control valve. If you remove it without loosening all of the valve adjusters and rocker shaft bolts in sequence, misfire DTCs can set after reassembly.
