New user and my first post here on honda-tech. Hope I'm posting in the right place. Having a bit of trouble navigating the sight. Anyhow my name is Jim. Originally from California, now (stuck) in Louisiana. My first build was a Datsun 510 back in 1984, I was 19. Yes, that makes me 54 years old men! I am also battling cancer. I have been for the past two years. Its genetic and there is no escape however I am still here and while I am here I decided to build myself a Honda👍 Why not. My code to a build is do it right and do it once, don't go half way because....well, just don't go half way lol. I know a ton about cars however no one knows it all and I'm here to learn. Current build is a 95 EX EJ2 coupe and Ls vtec engine. B18b1 block and crank are currently at CNC werx getting built. Skunk rods, Traum 10:1 forged pistons for boost, cylinder support system install and assembled. The B16a2 head is currently at Headgames receiving Ferrara 6000 valves, new guids, valve job, decked, Racetech 110lb springs and assembly. The rest of the build is 74mm k tuned throttle body, skunk intake, 1320 top mount, GT3582r ceramic ball bearing tyrbo, 3" intercooler piping, large intercooler, 5.5 qrt. oil pan and so on and so forth. Other components include hondata s300v2, rywire harness, again so on and so forth. Do it right, do it once. I don't have the luxury of time to do it twice! I do have a question if anyone cares to reply. The 95 EJ2 do Most my efforts have been concentrated on the motor and B16 transmission. The roller is next in line. Very small ping dents only and Zero rust. It makes for a great platform. es not come with a rear sway bar. I wish to install one. In a fare price range what does your past experience suggest I should use. I look forward to hearing from you....Jim
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
Welcome to Honda-Tech. I have moved your thread to the 92-00 Civic section as it looks more like a build thread than just a mere introduction thread. Here you will have a higher chance of getting the help you need. Like what rear sway bar comes recommended.
Nice to see another old guy building cars. I hope you lick that big C for a long life man!
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
Glad to have another old man Honda builder in the group !!! Your list looks pretty good. Progress Group has multiple quality choices... and ASR (A-Spec Racing) has rear bars and matching sub-frame braces. ASR bars are manufactured by Progress Group, so you can get a great product from multiple vendors. Think of it like Ice Cream... or Ice Cream with sprinkles.
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
The 40+ club still knows how to build nice cars. Looks like it's going to be a nice project.
Where at in Louisiana do you reside? I was in Louisiana about 3 years ago stationed at Fort Polk. My family lives all over Louisiana and I often go back to visit from time to time.
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
Welcome Jim!
I threw a rear sway bar on my hatch.
I heard stories about the rear cross member tearing from running big bars so I started with a factory rear sway bar from a 4-door EX. My buddy @wxman94ej1 found it at a parts yard.
So far so good!
Are your rear LCAs tapped for sway bars? Mine were not...

You can grab the 94-01 integra rear LCA's to get sway bar support that fits the 5th gen 92-95 civics. Then your stock EX sway bar fits in all OEM equipment.

GL old man. You have anyone helping you?
my nephew Mike and a local friend Lars. Both have a good amount of experience. O built a few cars in the past. I been turning tool forever. The biggest help I have got is by reading. Hundreds of hours reading. Moe at Real Street had been selling me everything and his knowledge is incredible. Rywire is getting me through the wiring nightmare but I'm picking it up pretty quick. Power goal is 500. I have over built for that goal to keep things on the safe side.

I am located 60 miles north (north shore) of New Orleans. Very small town called Folsom.

I'm not sure if there tapped or not. I keep meaning to look then get on to something else and forget lol. I'll look today. I have a complete 95 eg sedan with rear disc and sway bar sitting up by my shop. The rear lca's on the sedan have a S bend to them so I'm sure they can't be used on my coupe. I may have to go aftermarket on the rear control arm. I'm a big oem kinda guy so I try and stay that route. If I could find rear oem control arm with the sway bar provisions I would go that route for sure.
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
the rear LCA are interchangeable between all 92-95 civics and all 94-01 integras, the type r's would require the use of a type r rear shock as they are different but still work with the matching shock

I've heard of it, and yes, it's a small spot.
My brother's live in Metairie and Belle Chasse and my parents live way down by the mouth of the Mississippi River in Port Sulphur. Soon as this COVID nonsense dies down and the Army lets me travel, I plan on visiting my folks.

Thats whats got me a bit lost. I thought the 95 EX came with a rear sway bar however it doesn't have one and looks like it never did? I will most likely go with skunk lower lca's and ASR rear sway bar set up. I have been hammering away on the electrical all this week. The OEM rats nest has been ripped out and put where it belongs, the garbadge. Motor will be a complete stand alone system, ECU, engine harness, gauges and so on. Once that's all done and engine is tuned ill then put in all lighting and chassis harness. I DO NOT want them all tied together. Simple, sweet and clean and makes any future diagnosis a snap!
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
I think one of the 92-95's came with a rear sway bar. Don't remember which one. Maybe it was a sedan? Or maybe I'm forgetting things and I grabbed everything from Integras at the time.
I know in Japan, the 92-95 had a trim or two that had rear sway bar stock.

Correct. The sedans do have the rear sway bar and rear disc. I have a 95 sedan I use for parts by my shop. The rear lca on the sedan have a S bend in them that is very odd and they wont fit correctly on the coupe. Look up a few photos of them and you can see what I'm talking about. I'll put some pics up of it later. The integra lower lca would work perfect. I had a complete 94 integra 2 years ago I was using for parts but I sent it of to the scrap yard not knowing I was going to end up with a EJ coupe. Kicking my own but now over that one....April, 29th 2022. I was wrong to say the rear lower control arms with the S bend in them from the Acura Integra or 4 door Ej sedan don't fit or function on the Ej coupe chassis. They work and install perfectly. My bad.

Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
you can easily swap an interga rear bar into the ex without the asr I have been running the 14mm gsr rear in my 93 si with no issues for 10 years just using the oem integra hardware, the holes are there in the civics subframe for it, you just need to add a 4 bolts and nuts, washers

Great post! very informative. Thank you. I will go ahead and physically swsp the sedan parts over to my coupe to see how everything lines up. Can't hurt to try.

folsom is an hour and a half from me. My wife has a bunch of family in Ponchatoula, and her sister lives in Covington. Best wishes to you in your build and in life!

You were correct. It all fits perfect. Now taking it all out again. I have to pressure wash the belly of the EX and lay down a single stage gloss black paint. Doing the same for all suspention components as well. Installing complete energy suspentsuspwhile I'm in there. One question I have to Honda I'll never get an answer to but why the S curve in the lower LCA arms on the honda lx and integras? Tje only thing i can think of is sway bar clearance or a geometry factor?
Re: Old guy - 95 EX build - Do it once, do it right.
These little cars can be turned into Ferraris w the cheapest mods.
I went with a Progress 24mm rear sway and ditched the front sway altogether. These attach to shock mounts, no lcas needed. 14mm doesn't do much.
For the needed subframe brace I went with Blackworks or some other ebay brand. Have around 25k on chinese aluminum rear lcas but had to add lube as they shipped dry. Poly bushings all around are worth the effort as well.
My 95 coupe is really sharp and neutral now, loves to turn. The H/F engine just neutralized the oversteer I was getting with that D15.
One might want to consider springing for some decent 1 piece coilovers, my car handles but is a terrible daily driver.
