Default Standalone ignition for an EF

To whom is knowledgable:

Hi,
My name is Gage and this is my first ever thread. I made this account because I honest to god can not find a solution by myself.

-I put a VW carb onto a 1990 EF hatch. It works and it is my favourite project of all time. Don't judge, this is special.

-it ran great but my ECU or something went out, and I am stuck without any spark. I've tried two dizzys and none of them worked one bit. So yeah. No spark.

-ive come to the conclusion that I need a standalone ignition box. That is the only thing I need an ECU for at this point.

-what is the best option for standalone ignition for a Honda this vintage?

1. I can't find anyone that makes a trigger wheel for the D series.
2. I found an "Engine position module", made by AEM, it replaces the distributor and just supplys you with the Crank and Cam sensors, which is exactly what I need, but the damn thing costs $350!!!
3. I know the dizzy has the Crank and Cam sensors already in it. Is there anyway I can hook those up to a standalone ignition ECU?
4. Is there any options I am over looking?

Can someone point me in the right direction to do a standalone ignition ECU on an EF?

Thanks

-Gage.

i have been looking at speeduino ecu and was thinking of getting my camshaft position from a trigger wheel inside the distributor..
if i remember correctly, it had 16 teeth. speeduino uses a missing tooth system so i thought about just grinding one tooth off and using the signal from the original sensor thingy.
speeduino only needs camshaft position i think..

In Australia, and maybe a few other countries, the D-series in the ED/EF and most of the EGs were twin-carburettor with a traditional distributor containing mechanical advance and a vacuum advance. It also had the igniter and the coil included, so I would think it could be a simple swap for the EFI dizzy. The advance curve is for a 74-kW output, fairly close to the PGMFI version. No need for an ECU at all. Good luck finding one!

This is an old thread.

I found my solution a long time ago. I converted a 1980s vacuumed advance dizzy for this application and now I run a Weber 32/36.

sorry for bumping. Just wanted to set the record straight for anyone interested in the same thing.
the swap is worth it.
