Default need help

when i went in for my oil change, the guy said that some boot that connects the axle or something was torn or ripped. he said it'll cost around $200. he also said that this was very normal for cars with 100k+. so about a week later. i figured i would go in the next week for it. so then i went to start my car, and it wouldn't start. it would try REAL hard haha but it just couldn't. THEN, about 4 days later, before i was about to call the tow truck guys to tow it to the mechanic, it started. So today i figured i'd go in tomorow since i didn't have time today. then when i parked and came back to start the car...it didn't start. but between those two times, it started well. so i'm wondering, does that axle problem have anything to do with it? or do you think its something else?

The CV boot would have nothing to do with this. SOunds more like battery on it's last leg. BTW, I just did my passenger side boots, cost me $50 buying kit from dealer. But I guess you took your car in for an oil change , so never mind.

yeah i was asking how much for just the cv boot, and they said its suggested that you get a whole new axle. so i'm planning on just getting a new axle. and my battery, hmm....i just got a new one like a few months back cause i was having the same problem of it not starting. i dunno man...confusedd

put a lovtmeter to the battery, if the battery is fine it could be either your starter(mine died at around 100k too) or problem with the alt recharging battery itself

edit: its late, im still in the office

Yeah I would say get your alternator tested at Autozone or Pep Boys for free and check all your grounds. REbuilt axle at Autozone is like $50-60.

When you try to start it does it click, does it crank over fast and not start or does it crank really slow?

changes with every statup...like when it wasn't working. i would try to crank it up like 10 times. 3x it would just click. 4x it would crank but not start. 3x it would start then shut off immedeiatly...these are just random numbers cause thats how it is...random

some other things: the starter, main relay, bad ground somewhere. I had the same problem in an old Mitsu and it turned out to be the ignition switch(after replaceing battery & starter )

not to be rude....but if your gonna change it, please change it to a subject that actually has to do with my problem. i don't object at all to you changing it, but please, although we shoudln't have this problem any more, atleast have the decency to give my thread a proper subject so i can get the help i need. i mean that IS what is forum is for right?

Yeah.. Did you know that if the axle is not in properly, the engine won't crank over..!..

Whatever...

Sounds to me like an intermittent problem.. Here's what I'd do..

Go to the Starter Solenoid and see if you can yank the big wires on it.. If you can yank them or they're brittle, replace the wires..

And no, your ALTERNATOR has nothing to do with it not starting.. Because you stated that four days after the problem, it started up fine.. How can a battery recharge itself??.. Think about it.. And if you still think you'll need an alternator, go right ahead and buy one..

That's about what I can give you at this point.. I'll check back later..

--- If I remember to..
