Default EGR delete

I've been reading old posts about potential of an EGR delete for 98-02 Honda Accords and the consensus seems to indicate that it can't be done without a tune of some sort.

Anyone successfully installed block off plates for the EGR for the F23A1 engine?

Before you do that, realize that (at least from this forum's feedback) you will lose gas mileage if you block it off. However, some people claim you get horsepower in exchange. If you block it off, it throws a CEL.

This person came up with an interesting answer. Take a look

Yup.

These cars also use a different PCM from earlier Honda ECMs that are not as easily/cheaply tuned, worse is it has OBDII programming issues but still you have a chip. It's not like later models that have flash memory which can be readily programmed back to back, no chip burning needed.
The costs to turn off EGR and block it off on an otherwise stock power train is just throwing money at a non-existent problem.

LoL 99VTECcoupe was the only one who knew what he was talking about in that thread and was spot on with his points regarding emissions, FE(fuel economy) and combustion temperatures.

EGR has always been about FE. Reducing throttling losses. NOX reduction is secondary. However because the FE aspect isn't widely known, most people dismiss its(the EGR) importance in that category

(I only read the first 3 pages, his point was made and is indisputable, there was no reason to read any further)

Yeop, and I don't think anyone even acknowledged anything he stated.
It's not worth getting into the details of EGR functionality with 'enthusiasts', they attach EGR to emission controls and it's instantly bad. Just easier to tell them, not worth the time/effort to remove on an otherwise stock/street driven build.
