Hello, I just recently purchased a 2002 Civic with just over 100k. The issue I’m having is when shifting info 3rd gear just normal driving it will grind. If I hesitate between 2nd and 3rd and let the rpms drop and then shift into 3rd it does not do it. My question is I have recently read that bad motor mounts can cause shifting issues like grinding and other weird noises? I did notice that the driver side motor mount under the abs box is very warm and cracked and the car vibrates very bad on the drivers side only. The previous owner had the front motor mount, the one located by the radiator and the passenger side mount under the air box replaced but never had the one on the driver side replaced. Is this something that can happen? I plan on replacing the mount regardless because it’s very obvious that it is very bad shape. I just went from expecting to need to either rebuild the tranny or buy a used one to possibly hoping to god it’s just a cheap motor mount but I don’t want to get my hopes up because I never can get that lucky lol...
Also while letting the clutch out it makes a squeaky noise like the peddle assemble needs oil? Is that a thing? Throw out bearing?
here are a few pics, very clean car needs ac repaired as well as this 3rd gear issue figured out. I feel like I got a pretty good deal oh it though.
This is why you test drive a car , I would go to a tranny shop or 2 and see what they say , do more research on the subject , replace that motor mount if you feel like it I'm not sure if that would cause the problem you have but it may , If you have to double clutch ( go to neutral between 2nd & 3rd ) then so be it . It looks like a nice car and anothe rone may give you problems also . Think about it and weigh your options .
