Icon5 Replacing the Fuse Box on my '02 Accord- new or used?

Hello all,

My mechanic told me that the main fuse box in my Accord is no longer functioning. This was only after I got my Check Engine light read, code P1298 for "ELD Circuit Input High", and my mechanic examined it and told me the fuse box itself is now kaput. He then told me I could go to either a salvage yard and get one, OR go to my local Honda service & parts dept and get a new one.

Thing is, there's a huge cost difference here.

The used fuse box at the salvage yard near me is $40. The Honda dealership sells them new for $313, + labor for installation. Is it a good idea to buy a used fuse box? Or is it not, and should I then go for the new one only? The salvage yard does not allow returns even if the item is defunct.

THANKS for the help!!

Ive not had to replace an ELD on this model year Accord, however in Civics, the ELD is a common failure and is available separate from the fuse box. Maybe thats an option for you.

Be sure your alternator is charging properly or it can blow a fuse and cause the code P1298 to set.

I would not buy a used, 18 year old, electronic part for my car........

Thanks for the help. I don't think it is the alternator, as I had some repairs done 2 months ago and the alternator did not come up.

I will get the new fuse box and not used.

Make sure it's not a separate part and not integrated in the fuse box..like mentioned my civic was separate from fuse box.

Honda did not make a separate replacement ELD for the Accord like the Civic, CR-V, etc.

A new under-hood fuse box for an Accord can be purchased from an on-line Honda dealer for approximately $200, plus shipping.

Thanks. If you see this, could you link me to a good online retailer or two?

How many cylinders does the engine have, and trim level (DX, LX, EX, etc.)?

There are various on-line Honda dealers such as; but, not limited to: Bernardi Honda Parts, Honda Parts Now, Majestic, etc. Just enter your car's detail to look up the correct part number.

It is a V6, and EX. I will take a look at those sites and see if I can find a match.

Majestic shows it for $177.80 plus shipping (10% off shipping with promo code on their site): https://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com...ay-38250s87a01

Man thanks a bunch, I appreciate it. The Vehicle Fitment info says it's for a coupe, but I went thru the "See if this works for your vehicle" button, and it says it would work for a Sedan too so that's good.

Do you know if I'd prob have to assemble some of it myself? It looks like I would, I just want to know what to expect.
