Hi, family member handed me down this civic and it appears its leaking oil but we can not determine the source of the leak, can anyone help us identify the source based on the pics ? please and thank you! https://imgur.com/a/ExxoSfG
What's been done to it so far:
Spark plugs replaced (1 plug snapped and threads remained inside, drilled out, penetrating oil was used on seized spark plugs)
Ignition wires replaced
Fuel filter replaced
Oil changed previous to discovering leak, do not remember seeing such a mess or not before unfortunately
Error Codes: (P0301 to P0304) Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4 misfire 🙃🙃🙃 , maybe they are not getting the proper compression ?
Vehicle was taken to a mechanic to remove seized spark plugs, argument ensued on pick up day, tech refused to release vehicle, issues appeared. (Have considered the tech doing something to the vehicle but are choosing to give the man the benefit of doubt and not accuse him, yet)
I'm a total car noob, I more prefer working with computers/software so I apologize for the incredible lack of car knowledge ahead of time.
Welcome to Honda-Tech. First off, good job trying to document your issue with all the photo's. Definitely thorough and much appreciated!
Second, you can upload photo's directly to your thread using this button:
Now to the your issue.. With that much oil spread over, it's hard to pinpoint a leak. You should clean up all that oil and get everything nice and oil free, then drive the car and see where the oil returns.
From your photo's it could be oil pan gasket or the front main seal but to know which you will have to see where the oil comes back from after a clean up.
If it's the front main, you will get a drip from this spot circled in red:
However, it is also possible to get a drip there if the oil pan gasket is leaking on that side from one of the gasket corners that is supposed to have gasket maker dabbed in.
If it's a rear main seal you get an oil drip from the little hole between the transmission and block circled in red, your tranny looks dry so I don't think it's coming from there.
To be honest, I suspect the front main. I just went through this and had to use a repair sleeve to get seals to hold due to a groove ground into the crank shaft snout. It's pretty common on these high mileage motors.
You can see the work I did to install repair sleeves and new seals (for the 2nd time) to finally stop my oil leaks here:
For pictures of the repair sleeves themselves you will have to go back to post 379.
I'm confident the snout size is the same for the 6th gen as my 5th gen so should use the same repair sleeves if you have the groove that just won't seal.

Thanks for the reply/help! I'll definitely go ahead and attempt to clean it all. How should I proceed to cleaning it you think? Again sorry for not knowing even the simple things
But really, if you can't find it, go and ask at the automotive parts store which one they like to use. Simple green, Orange degreaser, etc. There will be plenty of choices.
With that much oil, I would have to say the oil pan gasket also needs to be replaced if the oil is only down low.
