SST27SF512 - Quantity Being Used?
Hi All -
If you read my introduction post you'll know that I'm not much of a car guy, but I'm slowly trying to piece together some information based off of the introduction that one of my pals gave me to this world recently.
I know that the SST27SF512 was/is(?) a really common chip within the Honda chipping community and I'm wondering whether or not there is still a need for this part. I see that the original SST parts being offered online are nearing ~$10/each which is pretty steep.
Are people still actively buying this chips? What kind of interest is out there for a replacement solution for that IC?

Tuners use that chip and similar ones, when they tune cars that don't have complete software but just a socketed ECU. However, that can be a hassle for the owner of the car because you cannot really go back into the chip and do adjustments. It will have to be uploaded and sent as a file. Adjustments can then be made, but you will still have to have the software (and datalogging) to do so.
Thank you for the response! Interesting stuff. So the only people that really have a need for those parts are the tuners themselves or people who feel comfortable doing that work on their own.
Does anything exist that allows an owner to easily access the chip that is installed in their socketed ECU? My understanding is that the ECU is installed under the dashboard on the passenger side, so having something that allows the individual to easily access the chip in that unit would probably be useful.

I believe you have to have a chip burner in order to pull off the file from the chip. Datalogging and the easy access is the way to go these days. You can even do it via BT module so you don't need a cable between the ECU and your laptop. The module usually runs about $40-50. That's Neptune RTP of course. Hondata has BT capability built in.
