2000 Honda accord goes into gear without key or pressing the brakes
Curious to find out why it goes into gear without pressing the brakes or with the key in the ignition. Is it something wrong in the shift column or a switch?
I believe that's a shift lock that's broken or loose. On that car, there should be a hidden keyhole where a key can be put into that allows you to move it to neutral (for emergencies), and it sounds like that lock is now not working. You pull up the center console to start to look at it.
This video will show you where it is, the problem he is describing is the opposite of what you have, but at least it clearly shows where the shift lock is.
