Default Water pump non vtec vs vtec

Hey! I was going to upgrade my non vtec water pump for a vtec, but then I see that the non vtec has much larger blades ... do you think it really pays to have 3 more teeth in exchange for much smaller blades?

The increase in pulley size on the VTEC pump SLOWS it down so that it can be spun to a higher engine RPM without cavitation. This really isn't an "upgrade" as you have suggested.

Won’t work. Gsr water pump has 22t and the ls has 19t.

I have actually seen the 22T pump used on a NON-VTEC engine... the timing belt is super tight, but it does in fact work. Trying to use the 19T pump on a VTEC engine harness is a problem... you simply cannot get the timing belt tight enough.

If they used the ls belt on a 22t water pump they must have stretched the belt, I have tried the 22t on my ls turbo and it won’t slide on with tensioner loose you have to stretch the crap out of it.
Ive also tried the gsr belt on the ls with the 22t and yes it’s loose as hell but they do sell those tensioner that bolts to the front of the timing belt that would help with slack.

but I wouldn’t chance it if having the belt too tight will wear down the water pump faster. It’ll need a little deflection

I dont understand why it will be loose, 22T and belt gsr, is not the same as a stock gsr? Although the cam gears of a ls are more separated, but that should tense.

Works fine. I have one on my B20. You must a GSR/ITR P72 timing belt as well.
