Intermittent No-start. Starter Spins
So, I've had this problem on my 07 Civic LX for a while. I have an intermittent no-start. The starter spins but doesn't engage. Battery's good. I've replaced the starter with a reman and it still does it. I've also replaced the starter relay. Since it spins, it seems like a solenoid problem, but I replaced the whole starter. I guess there's a better than zero chance I replaced a bum starter with another bum starter. I didn't buy top of the line, but even so that seems unlikely right out of the box. Any thoughts?
check the teeth on the flywheel for damage. probably the best way to do that is to remove the starter and rotating the engine by hand while checking through the starter opening until you're all the way around.
another way to check is to roll the car forward, in gear when you have the no-start condition to move to a different (potentially less damaged) area of the flywheel. if this works, there's a good change that's your problem

Thanks for the reply. So, my question there would be, would a flywheel issue produce a complete non-engagement with the starter's gear? I'm not having rough starts or grinding noise. It's pretty much all or nothing. You can turn the key several times and hear nothing but the whir of the starter spinning and then the next turn of the key it starts right up.
Make sure your main power wire contact is clean and tight. If that's okay chances are you have a bad reman starter. I work at the dealer, for whatever reason maybe 1/4 of the times if we use a reman jobber part due to time or $$$, that non-honda starter will fail.
