new itr owner. questions about hondata setup
The easiest way is to purchase the latest version of a hondata already installed in a obd1 computer. You will also need an adapter harness to plug into the stock ecu harness. Once you have it all plugged in download the stock itr map onto your hondata and it will get you started. I'm sure you know, but you will need to get it tuned on a dyno preferably to run optimally. There is endless information out there...
Now the best route to go would be to keep it stock...

HAMotorsports does a good job and I run one of their neptune systems on my R. When you order from them you can order a basemap pre-loaded with specs for your R including bolt ons.
With bolt-ons you will definitely make more power with a hondata and a good tune. Even stock itr's can make a bit more power...The only reason why I said keep it stock is because its a type r and you will only be depreciating its value every mod you make...and mods get addicting!

i debated hard whether i wanted to keep it stock or not because of that reason. but i dont ever plan on getting rid of it so i figured might as well do what i want with it. and you are right.....mods are very addictive lol so should i not even plan to use hondata unless i have a dyno and tuner?

It's your car, enjoy it the way you feel best.
Yes, I wouldn't install Hondata without an experienced tuner and dyno. Buy or rent a wideband and don't just focus on peak power. Partial throttle is what one is in the majority time when street driving. If your partial throttle is off, your driving experience (aka enjoyment) will suffer.
