Default CRX ED9 - ECU?

Hi everyone,

I am restoring a CRX ED9 (D16A9 - manual tran), and I have encountered the CEL - Code 9. I have replaced the dizzy and the camshaft sensor, but the CEL is still there. I have also checked the wirering (all good).... I suspect it could be the ECU acting up :-/
As I am rebuilding it back to stock, I encountered that the ECU installed was a ZDYNE ECU, and I suspect the previous owner had made some modifications to the ECU, which causes the Code 9 error.

I am looking to replace the ECU with a stock one, but as I don't know, which ECU model, the car came with, I hope you guys can help me out?

I have found three different ECU's online so far, but I don't which one is the right one :-/

- PM7-E031
- PM7-X04
- PM7-X030

/Martin

Two wires right? Going to the dizzy are responsible for that code popping up

depin those wires and swap they’er places

and see if that takes it away

unplug your battery before you do that

code 9 on the DOHC D16A9 can be due to a wiring problem but can also be due to improper camshaft timing - if you have checked the wiring and don't find a problem (BLU/GRN wire to ECU pin C1 and BLU/YEL wire to ECU pin C2) make sure the camshaft timing is correct - my guess would be that the exhaust camshaft is off by one ore more teeth on the belt

the PM7 is the correct ECU for that engine and the zero digit after the letter indicates that all three are for manual transmission cars, however, being a D16A9 would mean that the car originally came without a catalytic convertor and O2 sensor but instead came with an IMA sensor - you need a PM7 with IMA sensor - the IMA is the black thing in the attached photo

Thanks for the input - much appreciated :-)

I think I found the issue, it looks like the timing is off :-/

needs to look like this: with the TDC mark on the crankshaft pulley aligned with the pointer on the timing belt cover (TDC mark is the single white mark off to the right of the three ignition timing marks) then the two marks on the cam gears, close to each other, need to align with the top surface of the cylinder head, with 12 teeth on the timing belt between the 'UP' arrows
