as title states. am getting a weird metal on metal type grind like sound almost like a saw. when hitting 3k rpms shifting or in neutral sound is still there but sound goes away after 4k rpms have checked both my heatshield (manifold and cat) and vtec valve isn’t rattling any ideas on what this sound might be?

I have had significant rattling improvement after changing to full synthetic motor oil on RSX 2006. I read this idea on another forum and it actually worked for me. Had similar issue on MDX 2001 but it was a missing engine support bolt and loose passenger side engine support bracket. I discovered it while replacing the timing belt and water pump.

 

Mine had a metal on metal rattle at 2500rpm. turned out there is a heat shield for the mid section of the axle. Top bolt was loose, tightened it up and its good to go. May be worth a check.
