Default Cuts Off While Driving (91 Civic Hatchback)

I have a 91 Honda Civic hatchback. It drove great up until yesterday. It shut off while on the interstate, so I had to pop it in neutral, turn the switch completely off, and try to restart it that way. If I do it that way, most of the time it cranks right back up. But if I don’t completely turn the switch off, it won’t crank. I have a light smell of gas in the car. I changed the fuel pump, but that didn’t help. What could be the issue?

Any chance the radio stayed on during this situation? The ignition switch may be going out.
