Default 96 civic with b20/ls trans swap issue

Hey I’ve been looking on the forums for a week and haven’t found anything that helps. I’m having trouble starting my b20, it cranks, starts and dies immediately. Sometimes I can catch it by pressing down the gas but it bogs down then rpms fly up to 6k and then drops back down and bogs. I’ve replaced throttle body gasket, engine harness, the coolant temp sensor under the distributer that controls the cold start idle

Check mechanical (cam, crank) timing.. may have jumped a tooth.
Check compression both dry and wet (2 teaspoons oil in cylinder).
Try starting with gas pedal to floor which disables injectors and allows max amount of air into cylinders.
Fuel pump may be weak or intermittent.

i will be checking compression this weekend, I have discovered that when it heats up it idles fine and has no delay when giving gas. I forgot to mention it smells like it’s running very rich. I can hear the fuel pump priming. I am going to check that as well but could this at all be related to dirty fuel filter?

Could be a dirty fuel filter...they are around $15-$20 so worth changing to see if it helps. Does it have stock D or B series injectors? Did it ever run properly when cold since you've owned it? Any CEL codes?
Try cleaning the IACV + gasket screen. Clean the throttle body and plate (blade).

im unsure of which injectors it has, I’m assuming d series but that’s info I did not get from the previous owner. It ran better than it is now but never properly. Something is wrong with my obd2 port so I can’t pull the full code but I’ve jumped it and it’s giving me 6, 14 consistently, and occasionally a 16. I’ve cleaned the iacv.

6 ECT - water temperature sensor
14 IAC (EACV) - idle air control valve
16 Fuel injectors

Which ECU are you using?
Did you have to re-pin any harness connectors?
Are the IACV and Air Temp Sensors harness connectors accidentally switched? Read reply #7 in this thread: https://hondaswap.com/threads/help-b20-problems.58131/

im using a chipped p28. I’ve had to replace the 2 pin sensor as well as harness plug, and I’ve had to replace the single pin harness plug

Have you tested the distributor's coil spark/arc quality?
