96 accord transmission help!
so i cant get into 1st 3rd or 5th gear and sometimes i can get to first only when at a dead stop but then will slip out of gear. so im going to head up to riverside (i live in san diego) to pick up a JDM manual transmission for my 96 accord with a F22B1 motor. while im replacing the tranny im just going to replace the clutch and flywheel. what are some suggestions on clutchs/flywheels to get besides the obvious exeddy? and any good fourns or videos on doing this myself? ive never removed or installed a transmission, clutch or flywheel. any info, tips, and suggestions is greatly appreciated!
I would buy an AMS from RockAuto, they usually have a great price and the clutch / flywheel/ etc should be good for a daily driver like this. Nothing wrong with Exedy, I just happen to use RockAuto a lot and been pretty happy with the clutches available.
so i looked at the AMS on rockauto and the flywheel is like 35 bucks. that makes me a little skeptical just because it is so cheap... ill do some research on the brand though. ive heard LUK is a good brand for clutches but then i researched their flywheels and didnt see one good review on it
I don't want to come across as an a-hole, but this is what makes this stuff so nice working with non-racing parts. Even the Exedy kit from Rock Auto is only about $100. Just don't waste your money on any high performance blah blah stuff. If you feel safer with Exedy, they sell it as well. Easy peasey.
Pop it in and be on your way.
I love it when stuff like this is so inexpensive, I don't have to cry to the bank because my daily driver needs things like this.

Unless you are going to be exceeding the current clutch torque capacity, there is no reason to go to a clutch disc with a higher capacity.
That is the simple point of changing the clutch from OEM specs, if you have more torque than factory or plan on having more then change it. But there is no other reason to change the clutch disc from OEM specs. This is not where you will gain any performance, in fact a disc designed for more torque capacity on a stock output engine can actually be detrimental to driving. Heavy clutches are not fun to drive.
Now a light weight flywheel, within reason, on a street car can be beneficial. But again, don't go wild.
Stock flywheels are heavy for smoothness, that inertia makes accelerating from a stop much easier.
IIRC the stock flywheel is ~20lbs.
For a street/traffic monster, stick with 12-10lb flywheel. Anything less can become a bit tricky to drive in traffic with a stock engine.
Fidanza is probably your go to for a lighter flywheel.
