Car won't stay running
Trouble with car running. My son bought an 02' civic lx and started having immediate issues with it dying on him while driving. He so far has replaced the battery and the alternator. But if its sitting at idle its still dying. He thought maybe it needs new spark plugs, but he doesn't know a lot about cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated he needs his vehicle for work. Please help.
I would start by using a multimeter to verify the alternator is charging. They're cheap, and easy to use.
Just check the voltage on the battery while it's idling. If it's at 12.6v or lower, it's not being charged. If it's within 13ish to 14.25v it's charging.
If it's not charging the battery, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Then check your ground cables and make sure they're also clean and tight.
Won't be able to offer any other useful advice until you check this. It's a very easy and cheap way to verify vehicle is charging.
If it is charging and issues persist, you can rule out anything related to charging issues and focus on fuel, spark, and timing.
Spark plugs are good to change regardless if you haven't before as they're also cheap to do.
