More about the car:
I bought the car in 2019 from the original owner, who used it as his commuter car from Chapel Hill to RTP for 19 years. The car has been well taken care of and looks and drives great.
Exterior and interior are remarkably clean. Paint is in excellent overall condition. A few small dings and scrapes and some spots of touch-up paint. It is not perfect but looks really great for the age and mileage -- you’ll be impressed. All electronics work such as sunroof, stereo, cruise control, power windows and locks. Cold AC, hot heat.
The suspension was almost completely original when I got the car. Only the front shocks had ever been replaced. I replaced some worn parts and It’s a ton better now. There is more work to do if you’re looking for projects, but it’s fun to drive and reliable as-is.
H-series engines are known for consuming oil. The original owner said he added one quart every few tanks of gas. I’ve driven the car 1,200 miles and done an oil change part way through, so I’m not totally sure about the oil usage but it has not been a problem for me. Engine, transmission, clutch, are original.
The previous owner had most of the notorious leaky seals replaced on the engine, so it’s pretty dry and looks good. The only leak I’ve found is likely from the rear main seal, which is easy to address when the car eventually has a clutch job. It drips a couple drops of oil per week from around the transmission bell housing.
Why I’m selling:
I purchased this car on a whim and have really enjoyed going through it and driving my kids around in it. I’ve driven it around town regularly and taken two 300mi road trips and it has been comfortable and reliable. I’ve found the car very easy to work on thanks to high build quality, simplicity, and a PDF of the factory service manual. However, my family would like to consolidate down to a single car for now. No hurry to sell.
