I have a '98 Accord with about 386k on it so far. Runs strong.
I notice a rubber burning smell coming intermittently for two days now.
I popped the hood when I got home and noticed this small rip/tear on the serpentine belt?
How bad does this look to you guys/gals?
Am I able to drive it for roughly two weeks before I replace it? (When I get paid)
My bigger concern would be (a) what caused the tear in the belt and (b) where is the burning smell coming from? A recent burning smell under the hood of my Ridgeline turned out to be a failed alternator bearing.
Could it last two weeks like that? Probably. Can you follow the belt to see if it might be hitting something or rubbing to see if it's going to get worse?
Agreed about the burning smell, that is the item to start looking for. Is it something like dripping oil that's landed on something hot? Transmission burping fluid? seized item?
