Icon7 My Intro - Getting ready to buy a 1991 Prelude SI

Hi everyone,
Let this begin many posts to come as my son and i are preparing to pick up a 1991 Prelude Si coupe w/ 2dr manual tranny. We have SOME mechanical intelligence with mostly older trucks. We will have to learn as we go thus my many posts to come. Most of the stuff i pull up on here is from so many years ago, i wonder if things might have changed or if im getting the latest. So i hope to introduce myself to some current forum members.

Any how, this is the scenario for this purchase we are 1-2 weeks away from making (hopefully)
We saw this car on FB marketplace with two pics. not alot of body issues from those pics, owner just "refurbished" the head. Now the car is not keeping any oil pressure. That's what the ad says. I am quite happy with what he is asking for it, so im thinking, at the very worst, we can learn to do an engine swap sometime. The engine o/b is the b21a1.

so i have not seen the car, or talked directly to the dude after asking for his phone # that he did not provide. The car is 5+ hours away from me. The owner quickly responds to most of my questions and i've been bugging him alot. He sent me a video of the car at idle (engine bay) and some interior pics as i requested. To me, the idle sounds normal aside from old belts. They didnt rev it in the video. He pointed out some small dents on a fender, states "no rust".
I asked about the head work and it seems that he and a family member did the work. He stated that new gaskets were installed and the head was machined in a shop. However, when they started the car after the work, the oil light came on steady. He stated that they revved it, heard no noises, saw no smoke but believe that the oil pump could be clogged. He tried to replace "the sensor" which didn't help. A pressure test gauge was put on and he stated "he did not get any." He never gave me a psi reading. No coolant was visible in the oil. Since this, according to him, they have not moved the car.

I am basically transcribing what he texted me after being asked. I finally asked him what he believed was the issue and he felt that it was a "clogged oil pump". I know oil pumps dont usually become faulty. I also know that pressure comes from the bearings and i'm concerned about that - still want the car. Does anyone have any insight into what is up with this car and what steps I should take when I get this car home? I am hoping that the problem lies with a clogged pump or lines. I plan to drain the oil with a cheese cloth or something and see what the oil looks like coming out. What do you all think?

The things that i like about this car is that the body appears to require little to some body work, has a clean title (according to owner), < 140k miles (according to owner) and the interior isnt trashed. My son and i want to learn something form this car, but if it runs as is, we will try to keep it stock (for the most part). So i agreed to buy it from him (he even reduced the price to his lowest which i appreciate. I just have a dang long drive to pick this car up on a trailer. Unfortunately, we are having alot of trouble coordinating when i can pick it up. I'm not sure he's gonna save it if another honda guy comes along and wants it. I'm looking forward to getting this car and getting started.

Anyway, nice to meet you. Any input on this pending purchase and whats up with this car is appreciated.
Todd
