Hone with pistons in?
I've reached a dilemma due to the fact I needed to re-home/deglaze... Being stationed in an apartment complex major repairs are difficult due to rules and regulations. I've parked my car across the street at the local grocery stores parking lot to do repairs... Of course it's in view and not to be ironic or rude but a couple people call that place home, sadly but with a happy demeanor sleep in their vehicles that I've befriended so I'm not to worried about it being broken into.
However I needed to hone.... emphasis on needed... But I didn't want to tare my engine down again so I left the pistons in. Now I only used a flex hone as it didn't need resurfacing but rather a good deglazing.
Obviously for multiple reasons this is a horrible idea. Debris, bore taper, scratching up the Piston... Aside from the obvious downfalls of doing t this way. If I did a quick pass "through" with the Piston at Bottom dead am I going to face a serious issue? The hone took nicely but what about the small amount that didn't get touched that the rings will still have to slide across? I made sure to grease the top of the Piston with sticky moly-graphiite assembly lube to catch bits falling as well as put shop paper towel downsoaked in oil to add an extra layer so debris was not a worry(or so I currently believe) I used a 220 flex so a trivial amount was off. Didn't even really see bits but instead of lightly off grey colors slug that was required to be wiped.but will that 0.000001(didn't actually check) amount that was taken off cause a taper issue? 91 f22a4 naturally aspirated accord is vehicle in question

I mean for what you're doing I would say taper is the least of your concerns...Definitely would not recommend honing with the pistons in but it sounds like you've done it already. You're not going to get close to the full length of the bore so you will still have glazing that you can't reach even with the piston at bdc. I guess if you have no other options then you've done about all you can do.

it probably did need to be done all the way but I'll finish it another time. I ran it before without honing but I didn't resurface my head so the gasket failed. Figured might as well give it a try this time. What other issues might i face doing t this way?
Guess you'll just have to run it and find out. Never heard of anyone doing this. Engine in the car, pistons out, sure, but not with them in. I used to work at a machine shop so I've seen a lot of things but never that. If it blows smoke everywhere post back and let us know.

Well she started right up and a lot smoother than my first attempt when I neglected resurfacing my head... I mean I still just did it with a baking pan and some sandpaper but it worked out great. Also the piston in honing worked good. It ran smoother than my first attempt and smoke was at the standard residual contaminates from before burning off for a few minutes. so it worked in my opinion
