So i dont know if there is actually a thread about this but i did search for awhile when i was trying to accomplish this. Long story short i thought a had a 2000 b16 trans in my ek b20vtec turbo. It started to grind third gear so i decided to order a rebuild kit from synchrotech for a b16/gsr trans. Upon pulling transmission and opening it up. I counted all the teeth and realized its just a ls transmission. I was disappointed and i was even more disappointed that the kit i ordered with new third gear hub would not work and i actually ordered that kit 6 months earlier. So i came across a cable 92 gsr ys1 transmission for 200 bucks. I verified it had correct gears by turning the shaft and counted diff revolution. I was able to remove input shaft and counter shaft and install all my new carbon synchros and bearings on to shafts. Also used diff ring gear 4.400 onto my new wavetrac lsd. I measured diff shims found in spec also measured and tested mainshaft endplay found in spec. You have to use the shift forks from the cable case because the Ls forks are smaller. I installed trans and wow what a difference. So this is just a little information showing that the swap can be done and you pretty much have a itr trans for cheap. I will post some pics and show a neat way i tested mainshaft play without buying that 300 dollar honda special tool. Ys1 gears installed Using a small bearing puller already threaded for bolt just placed a piece of metal under for bolt to push against and measured play with dial indicator Removed ys1 gears Case primered and new wavetrac lsd unit Also painted my valve cover gold while i was at it Painted case gold
Your mainshaft shim clearance is off. The gauge needs to be parallel with the mainshaft.
No its good bro that was just a pic i snapped after. I checked it a few times. I know how to use gauges. I went to universal tech and ford fact. I worked at bmw for 8 years and was a master tech and now i work for Jaguar Land Rover for the past 6 years. So i been to many training facilities around the country.
