Leaking transmission 2002 Accord EX
Hello, I have a 2002 Accord EX (2.3l AUTO), that's leaking transmission fluid. The transmission was changed about 3 years ago, shortly after a lady wrecked into the passenger side of the car. There was no problems until then. Well, I didn't suspect a transmission leak again, so I didn't check it frequently enough, and now I suspect my transmission is ruined due to running dry.
I have a few questions. One, can the transmission on this car leak where the engine and transmission seal? Two, my transmission will hardly switch gears, keeps kicking out of gear, and the D4 light keeps blinking; Do you think just changing the fluid will help? (someone advised me to do that). Also, any ideas where to find a cheap transmission and what to look out for?
Thanks in advance, Andrew!

1 - I suppose it can't hurt to change the fluid, I don't think it can make it any worse. I would try something like Maxlife transmission fluid to see if you can get something working.
2 - Getting a replacement is choosing between either something at a salvage yard, which should be around $100-$300. I believe it's called an F23A transmission and I think all 98-2002 Honda accord 4 cyl use the same one. Or you can get a rebuilt transmission, which I think is around $800-$1200. that's not including any labor, that's just for the part. Then you have to decide if you or someone else will install it.

VWDubs - I think it's the same for most - check fluid level, check for leaks, check if it's burnt fluid or really dark. Drive it around and see if it shifts normally through all 4 forward gears and reverse. Listen for clunking noises. Make sure the D4 light is not blinking. Scan for code in car to see if anything comes up.
To add to the above, as a cheap security, replace the axle seals before putting in the new transmission. It's only a few dollars and doesn't take long to do, whether in or out of the car.
