aem cai install questions
got a 5th gen....want to know if theres any cutting involved when i install a aem cai. also, whats the fastest way to install it...i dont want to jack up the car and remove the shield underneath like http://www.ntpg.org says.
You will have to make the hole larger, otherwise it won't fit. The person who installed mine just hammered it a little. He also had to jack it up and remove the shield.
YEP theres cutting involved, you need to cut about a 1/2"-1" of metal away from where the intake tube will go into your bumper. I'd show you pics but that can't happen
Weird.. everyone says you have to cut. I didn't. I just removed the whole factory setup, put the intake tubing from the intake manifold to the "hole", and then pulled the black extention on the filter up thru to the rubber connector and tightened it down. It's a really really tight fit trying to do it, but I did without a problem. Then i also took some ABS plastic, cut, dremel, and worked it into the right size and shape to cover the remaining opening around the AEM where it passes into the fender, mostly just because no one else I know has done it, but also figured hey.. making sure the hot air stays out heh

What is it that everyone says that you have to cut? Im waiting on my intake to come in and im going to install it. I installed an intake on my accord but never on a prelude.
hiya sharky,
Just a tip for anyone doing a CAI install, whether you guys hammer the metal back or cut it away buy a can of rustoleum or something to keep away the rust. Also buy a spare step-hose and wrap it around the pip above the rubber part of the KN filter, so that it protects the CAI pipe from the sharp edges of the fenderwell. Or cover the edge of the fenderwell with some sort of linig like in sharkys pictue above.
