93 Accord wagon front end roaring
Greetings! I have a 93 Accord EX Wagon I bought a month ago. I replaced all 4 wheel bearings and still have a crazy loud roaring noise that sounds just like a damn bearing. Please tell me it is not my trany. Any suggestions?
Well, does the noise only occur when the car is in motion? Can you tell which end of the car it's coming from? I'm assuming the front, and if the noise isn't there at idle or when you rev up while stationary, that narrows it down to the axles (and half-shaft if it's a manual - there is a bearing in there) and trans. Try putting the front end on jack stands and spinning the wheels by hand/foot to hear if the noise appears and scope out where from.
This is an automatic trans. And it is while in motion that it makes the noise. It is a deafening noise while traveling over 30 mph. This car sat parked for a couple years and was not driven until I recently bought it from my neighbor. The noise remains when I shift to neutral and coast. It is the same whether going straight or turning curves in the road either direction.
least intrusive way to check is to get the car up safely on jack stands, trans in neutral and have someone spin the front wheels by hand while you check for the source of the noise. mechanics stethoscope is helpful but any metal rod cupped and held up to your ear (while contacting various parts of the car) is better than nothing.
but yes, what you're describing suggests trans/differential bearings are toast. some have a half-shaft bearing on a two-part driver's CV axle, but i don't remember if these were on the automatics or not.

Might seem silly, but check trans fluid, both for capacity, burnt fluid, low fluid, etc. A noise coming like that from the front, it's the first thing I would check.
