Default High/surging idle+hard shift fixed

On the smog place computer screen I saw that the idle is at 750 now. It was at 1500. No more surging while in P or N. No more hard shifts when I engage R or D. I bought the spring at ace hardware and got the key ring off of a lanyard. The smog tech didn’t notice it. Didn’t pass me tho for the gas cap and electrical tape on the hose for the iacv. I fixed them but I have to wait two hours. Until I hcan retest. Is waiting 2hrs a 50 state law?

I see a spring dong a reach around on a dashpot diaphragm lifting it up.
This is the position just as if it were functioning properly and vacuum was being pulled.

Seems you could have achieved the same thing by plugging he vacuum line, yeah?

They probably do a visual inspection too and would see a vacuum line capped off and fail the car for it. A spring might attract less attention I’m guessing.

Im glad to be in a no emissions county.

that spring setup sit nicely under the dpfi air box on top. I could maybe now plug a hose somewhere to or from it I’ll try. There’s a small hole in that diaphragm that I maybe I could have put a screw in after looking at these pictures. For now the spring is doing the job one hundred 💯 idle is 750 smooth. I think I feel the tension from the spring at the peddle slightly. So capping a plug now might be a better solution but I got it passed so I’m beside myself for now.
then got AAA and my agent is rad. Definitely going to give her a call.

Had to look up what the dashpot actually does.
Your problem dashpot is supposed to bring the rpm down a little slower when you completely jump off the accelerator pedal.
>shug< no serious loss unless you run into issues with the engine stalling from this.

It sounds a little choked when it starts but it still starts. The overall volume of the start up is a lot lower. Aside from cold starts there’s no initial jump in rpms when it fires up. it’s starts and sits at 750ish idk for sure. Someone said what it does and when I’m driving and let off. The rpm drops pretty fast. It’s not as subtle.

I bought some caps and capped the nipples that go to and from the dash spot diaphragm and still the idle would only get down to 750 ish when I manually pull the plunger into the diaphragm. With those on the idle was around 1000. I’m going to try putting a screw into that hole in the diaphragm. The throttle cable is getting caught on that spring so I’m going to band the mounting bracket for the throttle cable down a bit to clear the spring.
