2010 Accord EX-L 4 cyl starts then dies
Hi,
Over the last two months, 3 or 4 times it took longer than normal to start the car, I had to crank about 4 to 5 times as long but it did not crank slowly. I was always able to start it.
Today it did that also but when it started, it died after 2 or 3 seconds.
I can start it, even rev up the engine but it always does after running 2-3 seconds.
The battery seems healthy. The car has about 75K miles on it.
The last time I revved it hoping to keep it running and that time I heard a distinct though quiet "click" immediately before it shut down, as though some relay tripped.
Before this it ran fine, there were no performance issues.
I checked the OBD-II codes and my reader said there were none.
It seems like some switch is turning off the fuel or ignition a few seconds er the car starts. But that's just a guess.
What do you suppose it could be?

SOLVED.
I checked the shop manual to find the location of the fuel pump relay. I found instead something about the fuel pump relay "immobilizer". The description said it disabled the fuel 2 seconds after ignition. That sounded exactly like what was happening! I remembered that my key fob broke and I'm waiting on a new one, in the meantime I took out the button module. The anti-theft system was detecting that there was no chip with the key and disabling the engine to prevent theft.
