Alternator charging intermittently
My 2009 Accord V6 had been misfire on cylinder one, so I replaced all the plugs. It was about time anyways. A week goes by and it starts misfiring again then it left me on the side of road yesterday. Everything just shut down without warning no electronics. I take it to the shop they test the charging system everything checks fine. Then they say they go for a test drive and check the charging system again come to find out the alternator is charging intermittently. They do compression test and everythings good and then they checks cylinder one. They said I had a bad spark plug in cylinder 1 after I just replaced it a week ago and the NGK spark plugs I put in where of a California rating and there was a lot of carbon in the cylinder. So they replace that spark plug with a new one and say that I need a new alternator. They want to charge me $400 for a new alternator and $200 put it in. I say no thank you I'll buy me a new one for 200 and put it in myself. The vehicle has 125k on it should I replace the serpentine belt since I have to take it off anyway and is a carquest one okay to use or should I buy an oem. Any advice is much appreciated.
