new del sols, well new to me - electric grimlins
Hi, I have owned many hondas over the years including a 93 del sol from about 97 to 2002, i recently picked up 2 del sols though as ive been wanting another one since i had to let my old one go.
i got a pepto pink 93 s with automatic, and a blue 94 si with automatic. why automatic you may ask, my wife has had her hips damaged so can no longer handle a clutch very well so we now try to only do automatics so she can drive with less pain.
the blue one (94 si auto) is running and legal at the moment, however the guy i think must have broken something, over the next few days ill be trying to trace down the problems. it has a ton of elec grimlins to trace down though, so far ive found
no left turn signal, and flashers do not blink on left either.
the horn doesnt work they added some random switch under the dash for a horn button,
the windows do not roll down or up, and no motor sound from them, all 3 are dead
the cruise doesnt work but the cruise switch light does come on just not the set light when you try to set it,
the rear defroster switch lights up but it doesnt seem to work either,
and the cigarette lighter doesnt provide power...
also the interior light doesnt seem to be working...
i think this guy installed his own stereo and is the kind of guy that shouldnt be near anything like that, wondering if he goofed a wire in the dash that has all this inter connected or a few wires or something
couple other little things ive got to figure out as well on this one, the trip will not reset when ya hit the button ont he dash, also the trans slipps a little for like the first block or two you drive when the trans is cold, then its fine after that, i know the timing belt was replaces 20k ago but no clue if hes ever serviced the trans, not finished going over the whole car yet like the antenna is broken off so not sure if it works untill i replace it lol. the car runs fine it drives fine ac and heat work so its useable as it is but i would like to fix all these electric grimlins, its just so many that it has to have a common cause.
the pink one (93 s auto) i really have no clue yet, i may fix it and repaint it and keep it or use it as a donor for the 94 si, so far i have not had time to see what all is wrong with it, but i assume most of the relays will be the same so can switch like the flasher relay and see if its something like that before i buy one, but im not even sure what all is working ont he pink one yet, i just got it unloaded from the trailer this morning, tried to start it and if i floored the gas it would run badly for a sec then sputter and die, so im charging up a battery for it now and will try to look at it more over the next few days, at the moment the blue si is my main concern
so any ideas for the si? could there be a common cause for all these issues? the rest of the elec system seems to be ok so far that ive seen

looks like the p/o doesn't have a clue about cars. Good luck with electrical issues, especially when someone hacks up the wiring.

dont feel bad i cant spell either but im fluent in typo :D
left turn signal may indeed be a ground issue, but ill double check the bulbs etc as well once it warms up a tad, it came on once for me randomly but only the once.
nah its a horn button either the switches both went bad in the steering wheel or he goofed something playing with the elec, would be a waste of nos on a standard si with a automatic trans
i checked all fuses in the car, have not had a chance to try changing relays yet though for alot of stuff, i do have the 93 s (pepto pink one) and i can test out some relays from it to see if its a relay or a wiring issue before i take apart the dash etc.
i am sure before this is over i will be taking apart the dash consol and rear to check for lose wires and any wiring he changed or had changed and set to repairing them.
the interior light did come on randomly the other day so im hoeping thats a ground issue or a door switch issue
the rear defroster, ill take a multi tester to it once warmer and check the wires on the glass etc, just hope i can get a warmer day thats not raining
on the bright side ive worked on all kinda of cars as a hobby for over 20 years and a ton of them have been hondas, so shouldnt be anything i cant figure out, however if yall do think of a common cause of this please let me know, i just know this guy has glitched something..
then on to the pink one after i get the blue one sorted out
if i fix the pink one and keep it i have to change the color i dont care if its from a spray can vrs pink, but lets see what all the blue one needs from pinky first

What’s up everyone!
I own a 1997 Del Sol. All three windows decided not to work out of no where. I’ve read some threats on here going back as far as 2013. I’ve check all my fuses that includes both fuse boxes. I just switched out the WC module and windows still won’t go up or down. Any help is appreciated.

ok tried to start pinky (93 s) i was told the fuel pump was bad because they had run it out of gas more than once and they thought it was burned up,
however after putting some gas in it and turning the key on the pump seems to prime and stop as normal,
if i pump the gas peddle it will almost start but not quite, it runs 1 or 2 times rough then stops, weather hasnt been very good so not had time to tear into it yet, but i figure its either the fuel pump or fuel filter or its bad plugs or wires as it only seemed to try and catch on one cylinder.
opinions?
also the blue one the turn signal now seems to work fine it fixed its self (that worrys me a bit) im assuming that means the switch on the blinker arm was not used in a long time and needed to be used a bit to fix the contacts?
just readjusted the switch on the break pedal as i know sometimes if its not fully depressed the cruise will not work so ill test that this afternoon if nothing then ill start tracing wires on that,
i found the old owner really did a weird one on that funky horn button, they got the wire for pos crammed into a plug on the main harness under the dash, top right corner plug and ran a seperate ground, so im gonna have to check the orig wires and see if they are not working or whats going ont here, but very very rigged the way they did it

oh and i found a couple other added wires crammed under the dash headed to the center consol area no clue what they are for yet, ill be pulling all that apart if i can get some half decent weather..
and in 1 week of owning pinky the city has sited me for having a car storage lot, it was the only non tagged car here, so now it has a tag , what 4 cars is to many for a family to have now a days

I once made the mistake on a car that would not start eliminating the fuel pump cause I could hear it prime and stop as it should, in that case is was the fuel pump. You must test fuel pump- fuel pressure, possibly with a current clamp see how many amps the pump is pulling and ideally using an o scope to see the amps and rpm of the fuel pump. Or just try a known good fuel pump--not saying that's the problem but something to consider
yea could be the pump still or the filter either one, since with pumping the gas it almost starts might not have enough pressure or flow one. think ill change out the filter first then might kidnap the pump from my 94 si, if im going to replace the pump i may as well put the higher pressure new pump into the si
so the blue si started makeing a slight racket today sounds almost like a ever so slight valve slap to me, if timing was redone 30k ago it should be ok, but i have to wonder if the replaced the tentioner etc, uggg was perfect this morning on the way home it developed the knock, no smoke or anything engine oil looks fine, when i rev it up the sound seems to go away, makes me think it skipped a tooth though, desiding when to pull it apart to check on it
here is the sound it started makeing the knock and the chirp/squeal sound started together
well it said it attatched but doesnt seem to have hmmmm

so went to check the timing this morning, and someone over torqued the 10mm bolt on the firewall side of the upper timing cover, i cant get it to break loose it just spins the whole threaded sleeve, ill try a allen wrench to hold it still to try and remove it in a bit. i did penitrating oil it. any ideas if the allen wrench doenst work? id rather not have to break the cover off
ok so quick update on pinky and blue,
blue (94 si) i found the crankshaft is damaged on the tip, it had not jumped timing as i had thought, the woodruff key had chipped and shifted causeing damage to the end of the crankshaft, it also messed up my harmonic balancer,
so got a new balancer and key, and mechanic buddy gave me this speical stuff to try to repair the crankshaft with (he wants to see if it will work or not) its called Lab-Metal...
so im going to try it out, ill do the heat cure to it in stages after it does its 24 hour cure, that way i dont over heat anything else while heat cureing it, so will take me a couple days prolly to give it its full heat tempering,
im going very slow due to weather as well as i just went back into the hospital for another cardiac cath, im still not allowed down on the ground till next week.
while i have it all apart and ive got the parts im going to go ahead and redo the timing belt and water pump even though existing ones look ok, i figure if i have it all apart i may as well and save myself a headache 2 or 3 years from now..
on the pinky front (93 s) ive changed the coil and distributor cap coil was weak and cap was half burned up, i did buy a new fuel pump for blue and put blues into pinky, i know its a good pump and its rated for the si so should handle the s no problem.
i still get crank and almost start but it will not catch, if i pump the gas it almost will catch but not quite. there is a buzzing sound comming off the back of the intake no clue if its related,
the spark is strong and regular now since i changed the coil and the cap it was weak and irregular before. but i feel i have fuel and fire now, if i pull the plugs i can even smell the gas on them.
any ideas what else could be causing it to not catch?
i have not tried changing out the main relay yet, but if its turning over and fuel pump is pumping shouldnt that signal its working? i am just running out of ideas here and dont want to just throw money at it, im sure its something small causeing this as ive tested most major things i can think of.
when i bought pinky i was told, the guy had bought it for his neice, she drove it till it ran out of gas 3 times, after the 3rd time it fried the pump and was left on the side of the road till he towed it home 3 days later. and there it sat untill i bought it from him. it sat for about 10 or 12 months from my understanding. i get she most likely ragged it out, and im sure theres a ton of small things to find yet on it wrong with it. however i would think it shouldnt be this hard to get to catch and run even if badly, running badly i can fix lol, but would help trace down problems if i could get it to catch and run.

for blue? yea ive checked timing on it, it is correct, ive not checked pinky yet, but pinky has the 1.5 in it, i know where to check the timing on it though on that one aswell so ill check it in the next few days when weather allows and im allowed to get up and down again
ok got the crankshaft end jb wielded , installed a new harmonic balancer, got a new bolt and cranked it down tight, so far (around a 10 min drive) everything seems ok with it.. so blue is back running, still got to figure out the windows not working but thats for another day....
on the pinky end of things the 93 s with auto trans... ive replaced the fuel pump, and the dist cap, and the coil, i am now getting regular strong spark, and i am getting fuel , pressure should be good enough it was a pump for a si, and when i crack the filter line it spits out gas just great, also can smell fuel on the plugs after trying to start it if i pull them right away....
i still cant get it to start though, i did check the timing today, all timing marks line up as they should and at tdc....
so i got spark i got fuel and it will almost catch, its like its trying to start but just will not do it... i did notice a crap load of odd wiring under the dash, ill post some pics in a few mins, also a short low res video of the engine trying to start if i can get it to post it.
but im starting to think pinky is smarter than i am, if this was a old car from like the 70's or earlier it would be running, i just cant figure out whats keeping it from running, fuel is priming, spark is working fuel fire and air should be all it needs right? im sure im missing something small on it, and that small item is gonna drive me nuts, oh i have checked fuses etc aswell
did notice the heater relay or blower one (middle relay) under the hood stays hot to the touch, not burning hot but its hot, with no heat or ac on not sure why that would be

oh sometimes there is a odd sound aswell here is one of it. seems to be comming from the back of the intake area, is that the tps? the sound comes and goes, sometimes its quiet sometimes it does that whine. this stuff pics and vids are all from the pink 93 s 1.5 automatic
was thinking, could they have pulled the dist and set it 180 off? or could it be going bad its self even though i now have spark that seems good and strong? ill check tomorrow and make sure tdc shows number 1 on the button
