Assuming you’re talking about 1992-2000 Civic/Del Sol engine options because you didn’t list any car information, but posted in this section:

1.) SOHC or DOHC.

2.) VTEC or non-VTEC.

3.) Air intake, throttle body, intake manifold, exhaust manifold (cat location).

4.) Post pictures and car information.

There’s also a possibility that the head and block are mismatched.

No it isn't, only the engine block is on the car.

Originally I thought the head and block were mismatched as well then I was in for a surprise.

1. It's a SOHC

2. Vtec

3. Intake Manifold is closest to the driver. Exhaust manifold is in front of the car. Air intake is on the left side of intake manifold. Throttle body is in front of Intake manifold.

4. The car is a 96 DX honda civic hatchback. Originally I thought the car had a D16y8 but the oil dipstick was in the front instead of the side, so my guess its a D16Z6 or D15XX.

Here are some pictures.

Any idea what that damn screw on the left is for as well? Original owner sealed it in with a screw.

What's your take on it?

My best guess is a D15Z1.

The two things that I see are the VTEC and the cat located with the exhaust manifold.

Look at the front of the head, just above the exhaust manifold, and you should see some letters/numbers.

P07-x, for example or

P08-x.

P07 is a D15Z1 head.
P08 is a D16Z6 head.

EDIT: PM3 pistons. It’s a D15Bx block with a VTEC head. Most likely P08 (EX/Si).

The numbers on the head is P08-6 and the intake manifold is P08 HF-1. You're spot on man, thanks for narrowing it down!! I wonder if it's a D16Z6, reading around multiple websites, the consensus if it was a D16Z6 that it would not make clearance and overheat. This is exactly what I witness before taking it apart with a blown head gasket.

Its a mini-me. It’s a D16Z6 head on a D15Bx block.

If it was a D16 block it would have P28 pistons.

D Series Piston Guide <—click on that. Also if you google D16Z6 mini-me you’ll get a few threads from here about them.

Hey everyone,

just want to bump the thread to let you guys know that the car is almost done!!!!!!! I need to put back the engine harness and a few more goodies and I should be able to start it soon.

I was having trouble putting the engine harness on. Particular this plastic rectangular shape that holds the harness.

Anyone have any idea where you mount this black plastic? I was guessing it was underneath the intake manifold or behind the engine.

Any insights is appreciated!!

PM-3 piston is the D15B7 or D15B2 block.

That plastic strip looks like the fuel injector harness part of the harness and gets bolted down on top of the fuel rail. However if you don't have an OBD1 fuel rail (intake manifold/rail) system it won't bolt on top.

It's OBD2, what area do you recommend to bolt it? Or can I leave it to hang loosely?

See the studs on this D16Z6 head, that's where it goes, you will most likely need to figure out something similar to that even if it's zap strapping it to your existing fuel rail.

It has the 4 injector plugs coming out of it and without it in that location, you won't get your injector plugs onto the injectors.

Hey thanks for the help. My harness is actually missing that 2nd black rectangular for the fuel rail. So the top will be missing that. I tried to mount it behind the engine/under intake manifold and notice that it's missing certain mounts so I was able to only put one screw, it worked but sadly my wires weren't able to reach some sensors. In the pic below, I could only use the top right hole and the bottom circle is where the missing mounts were on the black rail.

Would it be a problem if I just left it hanging back there or zip tie it to something? Any insights on how to approach this?
