New Boots on Old Axles?
So, I need to do CV joints and, after pricing CV axles, a pair of OEM/JDM axles is 2-3 times the price of Masterpro or similar aftermarket. I know Honda axles are going work better in my car (2007 Civic LX), but I haven't budgeted for that cost. Axles have 180k on them and I can hear the joints audibly in the turns. So, new aftermarket axles, or new boots and grease on old axles? Thoughts?
If they are already clicking and clanking then it is too late. New boots are not going to help at this point.
Check on The Driftshaft Shop, Insane Shafts, and Gator Axle. See if they make a factory replacement shaft.
Also you can sometimes find reman OEM shafts at Napa. Or go to a wrecking yard and pull out some good used shafts. They only sold about 330k Civics per year. Not like they are rare.
