Default Basic Soundstage question for 99 Honda Accord

Hello everyone.

I recently picked up a 99 Honda Accord Sedan. I'd like to replace the speakers. Before I even begin, I'd like to get some opinions on 1, 2 , or 3 way speakers. Since I will only be using stock locations (because of time - I don't want to built separates on this car outside of the stock locations), I want to know what normally sets a decent soundstage in this car. Not a specific brand, but to achieve a decent balance from the start. For example, in my Civic, I made a mistake by putting in 3 way speakers in front and back, unless carefully balanced at the headunit, it seems the back speakers having a three-way speaker setup caused the sound to always be occurring more behind me instead of in front of me. Switching them to a 2 stage speaker in the back seemed to fix it. Since I would prefer to not have to buy multiple speakers and make the same mistake, and I am not familiar enough with the Accord, I thought this might be a good place to ask. My thought at the moment is actually to run 3 way speakers in the front and 1 way speakers in the back slots (6x9s I presume are back there) and then run a small sub in the trunk. Does this sound reasonable, or should I put 2 way speakers in the back and a sub in the trunk?

Thanks for any suggestions.
