Default Transmission failure, time to go broke

welp, fellas, its finally happened.
The accord tranny just told me to f&%k off!
its automatic and wont pull in any gear, and it doesnt even go into position 1.

Sooooo, anyway, its time to send it to Protech and let them work their magic on it.
I called and they said it'd be $2960, plus shipping. that includes bulletproofing it, fixing the shortcomings, and installing a high performance torque converter (any stall). for $600 more they also put in a LSD.

I know most of you are manual tranny people, but i was wondering if any of you have heard any horror stories about them?

not particularly, but make sure you install a trainy fluid cooler and external filter, to keep things nice n' pristine

thanks, i know there isnt a lot of people on here that have auto's and plan to keep them and run high hp numbers.

i can tell you one thing, a stock accord A/T cant hold very long with I/H/E, 75 shot, and 100% traction.

Holy hell! Why dont you call up levelten and get a quote from them. I think for the same work, it will be cheaper. They have different performance packages on http://www.levelten.com . Lots of Honda stuff .

I've driven a car after a light L10 rebuild where they improved the stall of the torque converter and beefed up the hardline ($500 job on a 2nd gen Probe GT) and the difference is remarkable. That tranny has been getting the **** kicked out of it for about 6 months now and it is still like the day they dropped the tranny in.

well, i was originally going to go with levelten, but they are $200 more for the tranny and only $50 less for the torque converter.
the reason i decided to go with Protech is because they also recalibrate the valve bodies, which levelten doesnt do.and Protech comes with a better gaurantee than Levelten.
Plus Protech has a quicker turnaround time and is cheaper on shipping.

Also, when i called Levelten, they just sounded real *******-ish.

$3,000 WTF just get a manual swap and save your self some money. You could get a tranny, clutch, flywheel, and lsd for less than that.

well i could, but my whole plans with this car is to keep it auto and see how good it can be. Plus, with the rebuild kit and chip they said it would shift faster than any human could.

In the long run, with good power, built auto's would be better at drag racing for 5 reasons:
-faster and consistant shifts
-enough power and high torque converter stall speed that good consistant launches are possible by torque braking
-ability to rev past redline
-no missed shifts or poor shifting
-never lift.

7500 would only work with a double stage E-VTECH setup.

or a E-VTECH transmission de-fribulation emmulator module.
but to have one of those, you must hook up a flux capacitor.

ok, enough of that.

if your interested in drag...with that 3k, you could buy a civic hatch and run waay faster eventually....

Ever thought about just buying a regular tranny rebuild/used one for <$1200? 3k is alot of scratch to throw into that car...

Edit: i also say that cause if you don't deal with a local place....it might be hard to get warranty work done...

Yes, but for $3000, you would be driving a Civic.

Brian: i wish. the shift **** was just something i had laying around, and i wasnt ever going to use it. actually, i dont even know where it came from. as far as the transmission goes, i am going to have to work a LOT of hours, but its not really "work", i work at radio shack.

"Excuse me sir, where can I find one of these lightbulbs?"

"In the lightbulb section."

"Thanks, you've been a big help."
