Default 92 civic cranks slow/sluggish a few times then starts

Hello I have a 92 civic ex d16z6 and the engine cranks slowish/sluggish. After a few trysts it finally turns over and starts. I recently had a few things done. Alternator was changed, and so was the distributor. Timing belt was replaced as well and all the other belts. I had my battery and alternator tested at autozone and both are working good. Not sure what the problem is. It sounds as if the battery is dieing . Same kind of slow crank. But I had my battery checked and they said it was fine and the alternator is charging . Ps this wasn't happening before I had all this stuff replaced. 142xxx miles.

Also I have noticed the lights in the dash pulses when trying to start. And I just did new spark plugs and wires today. Didnt change anything.

If you can buy a borrow a multimeter, you should be able to pinpoint the problem.

Have you cleaned and tightened the battery ground connection on the chassis and also the battery posts and connectors?

no I haven't but I can clean with a wire brush and make sure they are tighten. As far as the multimeter. Where would I start when I get one?

Here is a video of how it sounds. Turn your speaker or headphones up to hear entirely.

When you have the multimeter, post a picture of it so I can tell you how to set it.

Not sure what this wire is, starts at the positive terminal then goes into the firewall .

Positive terminal

Tighten and cleaned

Still does the same thing. Slow crank.
I can get a multimeter tomorrow. Will post when I have one.

In your picture, I placed a red circle around the battery ground wire connection to the chassis. Remove the bolt and clean it and the copper connector that bolt holds with a wire brush.

It would be wise to clean and tighten the connections at the starter motor as well.

I removed the bolt cleaned it and cleaned the copper firting on the ground wire.

This is the starter cable. Has a nick in the rubber that surrounds the wires but the wires are in tact and not cut or janky.

Still same result. Will post multimeter tomorrow.

The starter motor cable connection looks very corroded and should be covered by a rubber boot. I'd recommend cleaning it and installing a new rubber boot.

The starter motor gets voltage on the large cable. This cable should be covered with a rubber boot. You risk blowing the hood fuse box and starting a fire not having the cable connector covered by a rubber boot.

The starter solenoid gets voltage on the small wire. Repair the exposed wire.

Focus on the motor cable for your slow crank problem.

The starter motor cable connection that should be cleaned and covered by a rubber boot is circled in red.

Okay I will clean and replace the boot. Any where else I can get a new boot from besides a junk yard?

The junk yard is your best bet for the boot.

I found these terminal boots on Amazon. Maybe you can find one that would work.

Did you clean the starter cable connection?

New battery installed in multimeter?

Black meter probe installed in com and red meter probe installed in other hole?

Dial multimeter to the RX1K position. Hold the two probes together. Does the needle point to zero on the right side of the Ohm scale?

I am at work right now I will try when I get home also today I noticed when starting the car and having the slow crank it smelled like rotten eggs also forgot to say while I'm driving I don't get the right throttle response that should be I feel like the distributor the guy put on isn't the right one or is damaged cuz it wasn't doing this before you put it on

CAUTION: Do not drive the car, and disconnect the battery. Rotten egg smell is the sign of a bad battery that may soon explode. You may have found the problem.

Who tested the battery and alternator? A bad alternator that overcharges the battery can cause the battery to fail and produce the rotten egg smell.
