ABS Control Unit Failure After Installing New ABS Wheel Sensor?
Hi, I recently bought a nice 2001 Accord EX that needed a transmission. I replaced the transmission but, the ABS light has been on since I bought the car, The car coded front right abs/wheel speed sensor sensor, I installed a front right abs sensor and then immediately had another code for front left abs sensor. I replaced the front left senor and immediately got a code for 81-01 abs control unit fault & another front right abs sensor. So, at this point I'm confused? My first question is: is the abs control unit the same as a module? Where is the abs control unit? I'm confused between is it the pump in the engine compartment the control unit or is there a control unit behind the driver's side kick panel? Anyways, any advice is appreciated.
Re: ABS Control Unit Failure After Installing New ABS Wheel Sensor?
Update: I installed the battery caps and no luck. I found the service manual on this site and it turns out that the code I have is for the control unit in the cabin on the driver side kick panel. So, it's not the pump/module (checked fuses and relays). Just before the abs light comes on, while pressing the brakes, the abs modulates/pulsates the brakes and I could hear the pump turning on. So, it kinda of makes sense that the pump is good? Anybody have any thoughts? I'm thinking of ordering a used control unit from ebay vs spending $350++ for a new unit. Appreciate any advice.

All of the speed sensor codes were likely false code and the ABS unit itself is bad. Although it should be checked.
Never replace a part based on a code alone. That is a fools errand, as you have already experienced......
