Hello everyone. I'm in the process of building my 1st gen insight for drag. I'm on the hunt for suspension. I picked up some GAZ rear shocks, but I've had no luck on springs or front shocks. Has anyone tried fronts from EP3/RSX's?
I've been searchisearching few weeks online, and I've been calling all kinds of companies to see if they would build something custom for me if I sent them my OE stuff, but still no luck.
I was hoping to be able to run a double adjustment shock on the fronts. Any help is greatly appreciated
If you have already swapped spindles to Civic/RSX then the following applies.
Koni cut a strut for an 04 Civic with the smaller shaft fits in the Insight strut body. Only has adjustable rebound.
RSX struts will fit with some work. The camber at the spindle pinch bolts is WAY off and the top hats have a different bolt pattern.
I am still working on a better solution. Maybe an adjustable ride height coil over with compression and rebound damping for an RSX with a custom bottom sleeve with a corrected camber pinch bolt. Also need something with a short compressed height, much lower than a Civic/RSX strut. The Civic strut at Insight stock ride height doesn't have much travel left before bottoming.
Has anyone tried machining a bracket to mount "universal" shocks with eye mounts?
I was thinking something like this if I can't find anything else. But welding a piece towards the bottom of the shock to connect the steering tie rods of course.
Don't do that, those are not rated for the side loads of a McPherson strut! Bilstein makes some McPherson inserts that can be used like that. Check out JVAB on rally anarchy, he custom builds struts using the Bilstein insert and has a lot of how to pictures.
