Whirring sound when cold on 96 accord lx with auto trans
Im hearing lately a whirring sound from the front end on my 96 accord lx with auto trans that will go away after a few miles. It increases in sound level as I accelerate.
What might this be? Transmission? Ill try and get an audio recording to post.
The transmission has about 380,000 miles on it. I have had the transmission serviced around every 90,000 miles. The last few I have done myself. The last one I did at 372,000 one year ago almost to the day. When I did it I drained it and filled it with honda atv fluid and drove it around a bit, then drained it again. I did 3 total sets like that to flush out the transmission better.

380Kmiles on the original automatic?
Awesome.
It might be that the sump is starting to get impacted with clutch material and may need to be cleaned.
That whirring/whining is probably the AT pump cavitating, this is common issue with the Honda H4A that gets little or no maintenance done to it.
Tyler did us a service in properly measuring and locating where the sump is for cleaning without having to remove the transmission.

Yeah I am thankful for the miles this Accord has given and Ive tried to keep up with maintenance..except cosmetic. I let that slip once the clear coat burned off. I imagine the whirring is likely causing more wear than it should, but if I go drilling on my transmission case Im sure to screw things up. I'll start calling around to shops that would be willing to do this.
