cruise control not working
Hey folks, I have a 1995 civic lx that the cruise control is not working. The light come on when the button is pressed and that's about it. Ive held the set button for random times (5seconds,10,15,20) thinking that the electric motor has to take up slack. Nope. it didn't move. where do I start diagnosing this the car/engine has 397thousand on it so Im not that worried about it, but would like to fix it for giggles
thanks
thanks
Are you talking about the light in the "cruise" button on the dash or the green "CRUISE CONTROL" light in the bottom right corner of the cluster?
The button on the dash enables the rest of the system, and its light only means that the button is in the down position (this is a click once for on, click again for off mechanical latching button). More interesting is when you press the SET button on the wheel, the green CRUISE CONTROL light in the cluster should come on. This requires three things:
* Road speed 35 mph or higher.
* Brake pedal is not pressed.
* If manual, clutch pedal is not pressed.
There is a switch on the clutch pedal whos only function is to drop out the cruise. It has the same kind of breakable plastic pad as the starter interlock switch and the brake switch.
The buttons on the wheel go through the clock spring. Especially if you're also having trouble with the horn or the SRS the clock spring could be broken.
