So, I have a new project I am working on. unfortunately, it has the wrinkled armrest issue. I was looking for a solution, but could not find one. So I had this idea ....
Before
So when you flip it over you can see small perforations. I used a 8mm drill to carefully make these wider without perforating the vinyl.
Next I injected high Tack silicone (whatever brand you Prefer) , I used a lot to make sure it would reach/attach the back of the vinyl.
then I took some PVC piping which sort of matches the Curves of the armrest.
I used this to "massage" it back into form.
Be aware that any surplus will come out in the back.
Then I made a setup to lock everything into place so the silicone could cure.
This is the next day really happy with the result.
This is after a respray of the panel
I also did the driver side, this did not have any wrinkle, but the fabric had let go. And now it is firm again.
Questions? Just ask.
That's the common issue with those door panels. Thankfully mine are still minty fresh but that DIY should be helpful to folks in need of repair solutions.
You sir, have opened my eyes. Thank you for posting this, I alas have the wrinkled door panel issue and I will try this fix prior to getting them professionally re-upholstered.
how is that vinyl respray, is it sticky or anything. Do you sand it after? thanks
First I sand the whole panel with 3m Scotch Brite red ,then a deep clean with cellulose thinner, to get rid of the 23 years of interior sprays . Then vinyl respray.

Been looking for a solution for months. this one looks great, well explained, and easy enough. i have a extra door card i was going to throw away last week but i didnt so i have a practice card.
I only have one question. On the back of the door did you use zippies to secure and cure or something else.I see them in front but just wondering. im sure i can figure something else.
Again.... fantastic idea and i hope your idea spreads falcore
One more question. why did you paint? was there discoloration from the Hi-tack? or thats just the way it was?
